Rajasthan Factory Owner Tejpal Singh Arrested for Torturing Driver Over Theft

In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves across India, Tejpal Singh Udawat, a factory owner and history-sheeter in Rajasthan’s Beawar district, was arrested for brutally assaulting his driver, Mohammad Yakub, over suspicions of diesel and cement theft. The assault, captured in a viral video, shows Yakub tied upside down to a JCB machine and beaten mercilessly for three hours, sparking widespread outrage.

The Brutal Assault

The incident, which occurred around April 8, 2025, in Gudiya village near Raipur, came to light when a video surfaced on social media on May 24, 2025. Tejpal, who operates a factory and illegally conducts gravel mining, suspected Yakub of stealing diesel and cement during a delivery to Jaipur. Instead of reporting to the police, Tejpal and his accomplice, Parmeshwar Singh, subjected Yakub to inhumane torture, including beating him with belts and sticks and rubbing salt into his wounds.

“This is a chilling case of mob justice. Such acts have no place in a lawful society,” said Sub-Inspector Naval Kishore of Raipur Police Station.

The video, which garnered millions of views on X, prompted swift action from Beawar police, who arrested Tejpal and Parmeshwar on May 24, 2025, under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for preventing cognizable offenses. The accused were publicly paraded to dispel community fear, a rare police tactic to restore trust.

Public and Political Backlash

The incident has reignited concerns about mob justice and labor exploitation in Rajasthan’s unregulated industrial sectors. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress leader Govind Singh Dotasra slammed the BJP-led state government, accusing it of enabling “mafia rule” and weak law enforcement. Dotasra demanded a thorough investigation, alleging political protection for criminals like Tejpal, who has multiple cases against him for illegal mining.

For Northeast India’s youth, particularly in Assam, this story underscores the importance of worker protections, as many migrate to states like Rajasthan for factory jobs. The incident highlights the need for stricter labor laws and oversight to prevent such abuses.

What’s Next?

Police are awaiting a formal complaint from Yakub to file an FIR, with further legal action pending under sections of the Indian Penal Code for assault and unlawful confinement. Authorities have appealed to the public to report crimes through legal channels, emphasizing that vigilante actions will face strict consequences.
